ANNA SOMMER
|
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The exhibition will include the series Saturday Night, 2007 - an eight page story on a recurrent Sommer theme - playful relationships where one partner strays and is discovered by the other partner in a humorous, turnabout, fair play scenario. Another story, The Lumberjacks Widow, 2008 is a fairy tale battle of the sexes. In addition, there are a number of anthropomorphized animal collages, with animals couple dressed up as people and acting with all the silliness of their human counterparts. Featured in the exhibition will be the entire series of collages from Anna Sommers book Honigmond (Honeymoon), 1998 - a very sad tale of a wedding and marriage of promise that concludes in a devastatingly tragic way. Also included will be the artists naughty ink on paper drawings of sexual situations that are as pecular and touching as they are witty and humorous. Anna Sommer was born in Aarau, Switzerland in 1968. Her collages and drawings have been exhibited worldwide and her work was recently included in the exhibition Toy Comix at The Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris. She has been featured in many comics such as Strapazin, Lapin, Vibrations and others. Sommer was included in the exhibition Telling Tales: Contemporary Women Cartoonists, curated by Dan Nadel in 2006 at the gallery. Sommers collage books include Damen Dramen (Day Dreaming), 1996, Honigmond, 1998, Amourettes, 2002, and Portrait dAri la Nuit, among others. The gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11:00 to 5:30 P.M. For additional information, please contact Adam Baumgold at (212)861-7338, or at abaumgold@aol.com. |
